Hubble allows astronomers to capture details that can easily be skipped by the transient sky surveys. While transient sky surveys are very good at spotting objects that appear to change their brightness or positions, they cover vast swathes of the sky, and are not suited for deep and narrow observations. The other team wanted to investigate the aftermath of the supernova itself. Most of the matter that we seen around us, as well as the matter that makes us up, primarily came from long dead stars. By examining the masses and compositions of the stars that produce the elements, astronomers can better explain the origins of the many elements on Earth.
